CANCELED - Film Screening (4/2) & Workshop (4/3) with William Isom II

Many Ohio State events scheduled through April 20 have been canceled, rescheduled or reformatted. The safety of our community is our top priority. We will share updates as more information becomes available.

CFS is excited to be partnering with the The Appalachian Studies Network and the Department of African American and African Studies to welcome documentary filmmaker William Isom II to campus with support from the Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme Mobile Methods and Practices Grant.

Mr. Isom is the Director of the Black in Appalachia Project which works to "raise the visibility and contributions of the Black communities of the Mountain South through research, local narratives, public engagement and exhibition.”

Mr. Isom will be screening the film The Eastern Kentucky Social Club on April 2nd at 7:00pm, which will be followed by a discussion. The film explores the continued connections through social clubs and community reunions between Eastern Kentucky coalfields and northern cities to which many people migrated during the decline the coal industry. Mr. Isom will also hold a workshop on April 3rd for students interested in documenting minoritized peoples in historically marginalized communities and the use of social media in public scholarship.
