Esther E. Gottlieb, senior advisor at the Office of International Affairs, and a comparative education scholar, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). CIES is a scholarly association dedicated to increasing the understanding of educational issues, trends and policies through comparative, cross-cultural and international perspectives. Gottlieb serves on the executive board as historian for the professional organization of researchers, analysts, practitioners and students – from over 1,000 universities, research institutes, government agencies and NGOs across the globe. CIES is also home to the Comparative Education Review, a professional journal published by the University of Chicago Press that examines education around the world and the social, economic and political forces that shape it. With Ohio State since 2002, most recently Gottlieb has a Mershon Center research project with Bedouin colleagues in the Negev, she worked with the colleges to facilitate implementation of the Global Option, serves as a faculty mentor with the Second Year Transformational Experience Program and has helped secure grants and implement programming to host two cohorts of Washington Mandela Fellows in 2016 and 2017. https://www.cies.us/page/BoardofDirectors
