The Institute for Chinese Studies will present a lecture by Carla Nappi, associate professor and Andrew W. Mellon Chair, Department of History, University of Pittsburgh, on Friday, September 28 from 4-5:30 p.m. at 110 Orton Hall, 155 S. Oval Mall. Nappi will present "A Song Mumbled in My Sleep: Translating a Manchu Trickster Poet." This talk, based on a chapter of a current book manuscript, considers the Manchu poetry of Qing translator and inveterate complainer Jakdan. In addition to introducing the poetry itself, the talk will also discuss the methodological joys and challenges of translating this Manchu poet and writing at the interface of fiction and history.
