The Google Book Project began in October 2004 as a service that provides searchable full text books and magazines that have been scanned by Google. Content providers include publishers, authors, and library partners.  Ohio State University Libraries partners with Google through its membership in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) which joined with Google in 2007. The CIC institutions (BIG 10 plus the University of Chicago) would participate by scanning 10 million books. Google offers some titles for free and others for a fee.
